Boston Red Sox fail to make the ALCS playoffs in Baltimore.
September 28, 2011
In the last game of the regular season, the Red Sox lose 4-3 to the Orioles 4-3 at Camden Yards. The team, which had been in first place entering September, lost 20 of its last 27 games, the worst collapse major league baseball history. A Boston Globe sportswriter later calls it “the Chicken-and-Beer Collapse,” when it is learned that some players drank and ate takeout food from the nearby Popeye’s restaurant in the clubhouse before games were over.
